Casey Coble, 27, the swim coach at the Lancaster Aquatic Club in PA, was diagnosed in April 2006 with a form of leukemia. Casey endured two years of chemo and went in to remission. The cancer returned in September, and he needs our help.
Every morning, while I'm sipping my Peet's Coffee and slowly becoming aware of my surroundings - I scan a variety of online news sources. I start with sfgate.com and nytimes.com and move into local news, cycling news and finally, saving the best for last, swimming news. I peruse USMS.org to see what’s up in the Masters Swimming world, and I check headlines to see ...

Sometimes it's just not about the pool. This photo was taken while I was in Maine for business this past summer. I had the opportunity to swim with a few of the Maine Masters Swimmers at the Penobscot Bay (PenBay) YMCA.

So, Cokie Lepinski and other Northern California U.S. Masters swimmers weren’t the only ones setting records over the weekend. Three-time Olympic gold medallist Rowdy Gaines broke two world records in the Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic. According to the Florida newspaper, The Ledger, Gaines set records in the men's age 50-54, 50- and 100-meter freestyles. The previous record in the 50-meter free for that age group was 23.97. Gaines swam it in 23.28 on Sunday. On Saturday, he swam the 100 in 51.61, breaking the old world record of 54.29.
Gaines won gold medals at the 1984 Olympics, is an ambassador for swimming, and he worked tirelessly to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago. His charitable organization, Rowdy's ...

Congratulations U.S. Masters Swimmer Cokie Lepinski for setting a World Record in the 100 breaststroke at the Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships!!! Here is what Cokie did in Walnut Creek:
7 swims
4 lifetime bests
1 World Record*
1 Pacific Masters record
5 First places
2 Second places (I’m pretty sure the woman who beat her in at least one of these races was much, much younger)
Her new team, Marin Pirates Masters, with only 3 swimmers - placed 18th out of 43 teams
How does Cokie feel about all of this? To quote her Facebook status, “OMG ...

I made it through the Central Valley’s uber-thick fog early yesterday morning to get to Day 2 of the Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships in Walnut Creek. The home team, Walnut Creek Masters, did a great job hosting the event and keeping the positive spirit alive. I was disappointed not to be competing (remember the bum shoulder?) but I certainly had big fun cheering for my TCAM teammates and reconnecting with many of the wonderful folks I met at the USMS Convention in Chicago. I recognized many people from the Summer National Senior Games, whose photos I took completely randomly at that event. I introduced myself to some, others I felt shy about ...
