This is great Caroline, thank you! I'll have to go to a USMS Open Water swim meet and compare. As much as I love to swim, I can't say that I actually *enjoy* the swim portion of the triathlon. I do, however, enjoy passing all kinds of folks as I kick it up at the final buoy.

Masters open water swimming isn't combat swimming. I've heard that's one of the clear differences between triathletes and masters swimmers - so long as you're not at the front at the start, you'll find people give you space and will actually stop and say sorry if they bump into you!

The USF meet is a good meet, but then I go to a lot of meets and like them all so maybe my opinion maybe doesn't count for much.

I've put together this calendar:

http://www.pacificmasters.org/comp/schedulemonth.html

It has important stuff like meet entry deadlines (the purple entries), which will be added as they come available. There are some html coding errors that Michael needs to fix, but it's live and usable, and hopefully useful.

So many people at the TCAM pool go to the SF meet every year. They all say it's a great meet - and especially a great meet for newbies. Though I've been in Masters Swimming for 3 years now, I've only competed once. In my mind I'm a newbie. Maybe our paths will cross?

I really should try a USMS Open Water Swim, but I will probably limit my open water swims to triathlons. I can't say I enjoy combat swimming all that much. Santa Cruz Roughwater swim? Roughwater? Are they trying to get people to sign up?

if my daughter doesn't have a meet the weekend of the SF meet, I'm in. Pac Swimming (non-masters) just came out with their schedule and her coach hasn't said which one they're doing.

I think a meet would be fun.

I'll probably see you at a few of those! But where's the open water swims? You should at least hit the USMS 1–3 Mile Open Water Championships (1.5 mile swim) at Lake Del Valle, Livermore, CA on June 6... the Santa Cruz Roughwater swim is pretty good too.
