I'll have to go to a USMS Open Water swim meet and compare. As much as I love to swim, I can't say that I actually *enjoy* the swim portion of the triathlon. I've heard that's one of the clear differences between triathletes and masters swimmers - so long as you're not at the front at the start, you'll find people give you space and will actually stop and say sorry if they bump into you! The USF meet is a good meet, but then I go to a lot of meets and like them all so maybe my opinion maybe doesn't count for much. They all say it's a great meet - and especially a great meet for newbies. Though I've been in Masters Swimming for 3 years now, I've only competed once. In my mind I'm a newbie. Pac Swimming (non-masters) just came out with their schedule and her coach hasn't said which one they're doing. You should at least hit the USMS 1–3 Mile Open Water Championships (1.5 mile swim) at Lake Del Valle, Livermore, CA on June 6... the Santa Cruz Roughwater swim is pretty good too.
