Are You Happy with Your Swim Stroke?

Posted by tracyb on October 13, 2010 at 1:38 pm

September/October = Breaking Down Our Swim Strokes, One Stroke At A Time Our Masters Swim program just wrapped up a swim stroke clinic month. We spent one week on each stroke, breaking down butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle. Just when we were convinced we had perfect form… the coach let us know otherwise. It’s a [...]

Who Willingly Jumps Into A Mountain Lake When It’s 45 Degrees Outside?

Posted by tracyb on August 31, 2010 at 12:28 pm

A few dozen Tuolumne County Aquatics Masters (TCAM) swimmers (and a certain photographer). That's who. Congratulations to all swimmers who participated in the 1-mile open water swim this past weekend at Pinecrest Lake. This High Sierra lake is located NE of Sonora, California, at an elevation of +/-6000 feet. The event could not have happened [...]

Fishy, Fishy, Here Smiling Fishy

Posted by tracyb on July 14, 2010 at 11:27 am

Temperatures hovering in the high 90s – low 100s + Diving into Masters Swim practice where the pool water is approximately 80-82 degrees + Seeing smiley fish cap coming at you underwater… Priceless!

Ahoy Maties!

Johnny Depp a U.S. Masters Swimmer? No such luck. What I did find at a recent Marin Pirates swim practice was dedicated, enthusiastic, passionate and accessible Head Coach Cokie Lepinski and an extremely demonstrative and nice Assistant Coach Susie Powell. Both women are certified ASCA and USA Swimming coaches. Cokie is a fierce competitor who [...]

Who Are U.S. Masters Swimmers?

Posted by tracyb on May 6, 2010 at 6:58 am

Who Are U.S. Masters Swimmers? Trust Me, We’re Not All Here for the Medals and Ribbons. We don’t all look good in bathing suits. We can’t all do flip turns. We’re not all entirely graceful diving off the starting blocks. In fact, many U.S. Masters Swimming members never compete in swim meets. The one thing [...]

On The Bright Side

Posted by tracyb on April 21, 2010 at 10:40 am

The last time I dipped my toe into the pool was March 8th. Knowing I’d be out of the water for at least a month or two, I can honestly say I never enjoyed a coached U.S. Masters swim as much. For anyone out there with a shoulder injury facing surgery, get it in your [...]

Sidelined with Shoulder Surgery and Missing the View

Posted by tracyb on March 29, 2010 at 11:24 am

Just about three weeks post shoulder surgery and I’m seriously missing the view from the pool…     One of the many benefits of being a U.S. Masters swimmer is being a part of a network of wonderful folks. I was given a ride to the pool recently and visited with my lane mates. Their [...]

Photo of the Day – 64 Laps Down, 2 To Go

Posted by tracyb on March 3, 2010 at 12:45 am

This image of a young swimmer was taken at the Tuolumne County Aquatics Masters annual 1650-yard (66 laps/1 mile) event. I wanted to play around with blurring the images and practice panning techniques. This is one of my favorites from the day. Hope you like it.

Photo of the Day – Congratulations Are In Order

U.S. Masters Swimmers at Tuolumne County Aquatics Masters (TCAM) are wrapping up their timed 1650-yard event this weekend. That’s ONE MILE folks! I’ve been at the pool with my camera, and I can’t begin to express to you in words just how inspiring it is to witness this annual event. Maybe this photo of 79-year-old Floyd [...]
