Last week I promised one of the coaches I would take photos of her Tuolumne County Aquatics (TCA) kids’ “mini-meet.” Our pool often holds mini-meets for our Masters Swimmers (USMS) as well as the kids’ swim team. A club mini-meet is simply a swim meet held at our pool for our swimmers only. It’s a [...]
Sitting at home last night with my leg elevated and my knee on ice, enjoying ibuprofen-enhanced mango sorbet, I actually wondered if the same people who invented the breaststroke invented the mammogram machine. They both involve contorting body parts in unnatural positions. Curious to know the origins, I googled “who invented the breaststroke” and found [...]
Our US Masters Swimming workout had to take a back seat for a few hours on Sunday while two local youth swim teams competed. I can’t even begin to describe how wonderfully cute, enthusiastic and supportive of one another these kids were. So, instead, I’ll share a few photos with you.
As promised, I’m posting some images from the Tuolumne County Aquatics age group open (TCA Age Group Open) swim meet, held July 31-August 2. I’ll post more as time allows. Coach Erica, a former competitive collegiate swimmer and successful English Channel swimmer, does a wonderful job with the program. I can only imagine how rewarding [...]
I took these photos at Saturday’s 2009 Summer National Senior Games swimming competition at Avery Pool, Stanford University. Swimming continues through mid-week, and if I didn’t have an upcoming trip tomorrow, I would have planted myself poolside throughout the entire competition. I just can’t express how truly inspiring these athletes are. A big CONGRATULATIONS to all Senior [...]
Below you’ll find one of my favorite images from today’s Tuolumne County Aquatics Open Age Group Swim Meet for the younger crowd. (more to follow) The 2009 TCA AOG swim meet will continue through the entire weekend, with swim teams in attendance from various northern California and Central Valley locations. I saw swim caps there [...]
What do you do with a lane mate who, when she gets to the far end of the pool stops to catch her breath, and then proceeds to push off the wall just as you are about to make your turn? This said lane mate is a much slower swimmer than you are, and you’re [...]
Seems like half the people I swim with in the US Masters Swimming program here in Tuolumne County are heading to the 2009 Summer National Senior Games at Stanford this weekend. Folks were practicing their starts, sprints, and of course half the pool has been tapering their practices all week. I suspect some records will [...]
After my first attempt at a triathlon a couple of years ago, I realized I could use a little help with my swimming skills. I found the nearest swimming pool and signed up for a Masters Swimming 101 course. I was fortunate enough to have found great coaches at the Tuolumne County Aquatics Center. My 101 coach [...]
