Injuries and a heavy workload prevented me from competing in triathlons this past season. (Remember, I came to U.S. Masters swimming to feel more confident in the swim portion of triathlons.) This change of plans had me hanging out at the pool more than normal which allowed me to get to know some fun, interesting folks (is it me, or are swimmers a tad less competitive than triathletes?). They've inspired me to compete in a few swim meets - assuming my numerous injuries heal. I’m not giving up on triathlons, mind you, just thinking about getting out there and seeing what I can do competitively in the pool.

One of my TCAM teammates won TWO GOLD MEDALS... (2)! We swim at the same time of day, though in different lanes. We chit chat in the locker room, and Sissy always has a sweet smile on her beautiful face and never fails to offer kind words to all of us on deck. She's also one of the few people that can give our coach a hard time and get away with it. She's my favorite 70+ year-old DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL WINNER.
One of my actual lane mates got a 4th place in the 100 freestyle... 4th place! Unfortunately, she had to beat two other women from our team who normally swim faster than she does. But, I'm pretty ...
Seems like half the people I swim with in the US Masters Swimming program here in Tuolumne County are heading to the 2009 Summer National Senior Games at Stanford this weekend. Folks were practicing their starts, sprints, and of course half the pool has been tapering their practices all week. I suspect some records will be broken in the next few days!
I’m hoping to make the 3-plus-hour trek to Palo Alto at least one day during the competition. I’ll post some photos here if I do indeed make the trip.
Approximately 10,000 athletes from all 50 states are expected to compete in 25 sports, including swimming, at this event. The 2009 Senior Games is the largest multi-sport event for ...
After my first attempt at a triathlon a couple of years ago, I realized I could use a little help with my swimming skills. I found the nearest swimming pool and signed up for a Masters Swimming 101 course. I was fortunate enough to have found great coaches at the Tuolumne County Aquatics Center. My 101 coach - Dave Fairfield - has an infectious and genuine enthusiasm, a good-hearted nature, and he is one very big reason I signed up to become a U.S. Masters Swimmer. He continues to teach at the pool and is never too busy to offer support, instruction and encouragement to new swimmers and long-time athletes alike. I ran into him at the pool today and snapped ...

The Large team award was won by USF Masters, medium team by Walnut Creek and small team was Rolling Hills Mudsharks who edged out the Manatee Aquatic Masters. A special congrats to my teammates on the Tuolumne County Aquatics Masters for their 4th place in the overall! W00t!
A shout out to Jenny Kubicki and the Chabot College Aquatics team for organizing the meet.<Hey Jenny, think you can help me out with the $30 parking ticket?!>
