4 Steps to Easy Breathing in Freestyle

Again with the Twitter love. I probably would not come across these wonderful swimming tips so easily without scrolling through my Twitter account (@MastersSwimmers). Rebecca, this one is for you again. Good for you for sticking with it!

1) While standing, practice inhaling through the mouth and exhaling through the nose until you feel comfortable and at ease.

2) With feet still on the bottom and arms remaining at sides, bend forward, placing the face in the water, and practice the same breath, turning the head first to one side, then the other and working through three focal points:

How To Breathe Properly While Swimming Freestyle

To all those people who say Twitter is a waste of time or energy… think again.  The Swim Channel recently tweeted a link to a wonderfully informative video about how to breathe properly while swimming freestyle. While watching the video, I thought of my buddy Rebecca, who is an outstanding athlete and a new U.S. Masters Swimmer with “breathing issues.” I’m currently one of those swimmers who “checks the weather” while breathing, but you can bet I’m going to try out the video’s techniques at today’s workout.
