Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships
I made it through the Central Valley’s uber-thick fog early yesterday morning to get to Day 2 of the Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships in Walnut Creek. The home team, Walnut Creek Masters, did a great job hosting the event and keeping the positive spirit alive. I was disappointed not to be competing (remember the bum shoulder?) but I certainly had big fun cheering for my TCAM teammates and reconnecting with many of the wonderful folks I met at the USMS Convention in Chicago. I recognized many people from the Summer National Senior Games, whose photos I took completely randomly at that event. I introduced myself to some, others I felt shy about approaching.
Of course I had my camera with me this time too, and you can view some of the images here. I’ll continue to upload more as time allows. Today was about getting in an easy one-mile (gentle-on-the-shoulder) swim workout before gathering and stacking firewood. (Here’s hoping we’ll soon have lovely cold and wet weather.)
The Rolling Hills Mudsharks sure know how to have a good time! As far as I could tell, a group gathered to shout encouragement every single time one of their teammates stepped up to the starting block. It was great to see such enthusiasm, camaraderie, playfulness and competitive spirit throughout the entire day.
If the coach is having this much fun…

and can get her team members to do this… and this… and this… something’s working!
Congratulations to all swimmers, first-time competitors and record-breakers for an outstanding meet. As always, big thanks to the countless volunteers who generously donate their time and talents to make these things happen.
Cokie, Susie, Rob, Nancy, Chris, Carolyn, and all – it was great to see you again. I look forward to competing with you next time!
