Welcome to my Masters Swimming blog. I'm just an average U.S. Masters Swimmer - no world records here - who loves to swim. Here you'll find swimming news and Q&A's, as well as information and photos of U.S. Masters Swimming events, and quite possibly, things not related to swimming at all.
What kind of camera do you use? I have a neat little underwater camera that I just can’t see the screen when underwater even with goggles on. Makes it so I can’t actually get the shot I want except by accident.
I guess my question is more, what kind of technique do you use to get these pictures? hold the camera underwater and hope you’re pointing where you want to….or do you go underwater and actually see through the viewfinder?
Thanks so much for asking! I used a Canon G10 camera with an underwater housing unit for this image. I asked a teammate if she minded if I took pictures of her throughout our Sunday open swim. She got a good laugh because apparently she and her husband do quite a bit of scuba diving and she acts as his model. It really helps to have someone who is willing to work with you. Sometimes I can set up a picture and see through the viewfinder… other times I just point and shoot and hope. This one was set up and I was fortunate to get what I was hoping for.
