This photo was taken at the U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course Meters Championships in Walnut Creek this past fall. These properly rested swimmers, I believe, are from Tamalpais Aquatic Masters. (Note to self, next swim meet... take better notes!)

Injuries and a heavy workload prevented me from competing in triathlons this past season. (Remember, I came to U.S. Masters swimming to feel more confident in the swim portion of triathlons.) This change of plans had me hanging out at the pool more than normal which allowed me to get to know some fun, interesting folks (is it me, or are swimmers a tad less competitive than triathletes?). They've inspired me to compete in a few swim meets - assuming my numerous injuries heal. I’m not giving up on triathlons, mind you, just thinking about getting out there and seeing what I can do competitively in the pool.

I made it through the Central Valley’s uber-thick fog early yesterday morning to get to Day 2 of the Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships in Walnut Creek. The home team, Walnut Creek Masters, did a great job hosting the event and keeping the positive spirit alive. I was disappointed not to be competing (remember the bum shoulder?) but I certainly had big fun cheering for my TCAM teammates and reconnecting with many of the wonderful folks I met at the USMS Convention in Chicago. I recognized many people from the Summer National Senior Games, whose photos I took completely randomly at that event. I introduced myself to some, others I felt shy about ...
