Day Three – USAS / USMS Convention…
My friends at the Tuolumne County Aquatics Masters are wondering why I haven’t updated my blog recently. Well, to be honest, I’m just having too much fun meeting other US Masters Swimmers here in Chicago. AM to PM I’m in meetings, voting on important USMS legislation and networking.
I decided almost immediately not to be intimidated by these world-class-athlete-looking, hard-bodied, bronzed gods and goddesses, which has allowed me to meet some very interesting, weird and quirky people.
I knew from the first night when I walked into the hotel I was in for some fun. Literally 15 minutes after my arrival I was asked to attend a regional meeting. At that meeting, a strange woman sitting on the floor in front of me reached around and grabbed my leg and started fondling it. Having never been to a convention before, and having heard nothing but wild and crazy stereotypical stories about conventions… I thought, fasten seat belts, here we go: what happens in Chicago, stays in Chicago. Right? She’s not my type (I lean toward the other gender…) but being a mid-westerner, I didn’t want to be rude or anything. She turned three shades of red when at last she turned around to make eye contact with the leg’s owner and realized she had mistaken me for the tall, dark and seriously handsome guy who was sitting next to me.
Off to my first meeting for the day…
